What is Bartech?

Bartech is an membership group for CTOs and technology leaders. Members can share, discuss and support each other in dealing with the many challenges of the role.

Who are the members?

Anyone who is the CTO (or equivalent) in their organisation or, for larger entities, the same role in technology leadership of a corporate division can be a member of Bartech. Members range from those new into the role to people who have many years experience to share.

How do I become a member?

New applicants must fit the profile detailed in the Bartech Charter and be proposed by an existing member. Applications for membership are made online and reviewed by the membership committee.

How diverse is Bartech?

Technologists come from all walks of life and are of all genders and ethnicities with a multitude of political, religious and other beliefs. Our CTO community reflects this and members share their wealth of business, technology and life experience freely. Bartech is for all.

How do members interact?

Bartech's main channel for interaction is the active mailing list run through our Discourse server. Email allows time for considered, long-form responses and has proven a good format for in-depth discussion. Questions are often met with fulsome replies from extremely experienced and knowledgeable peers.

Do you meet in person?

Yes! Bartech CTO drinks events are held monthly in central London for members to meet and chat in person. These events will for ever be sales and recruitment free zones where members can speak freely (under the terms of the Chatham House Rule) and meet with their peers.

Do you do anything else?

We have run a very successful Bartech conference. There have been many ad-hoc in-person meetups to discuss topics arising from the mailing list, often generously hosted by members in their offices. Now, with COVID well behind us, we plan to introduce these events back into the calendar.

Bartech members around the UK and the world have met up. Outside of work the "Bartech Racing" sailing team has also been successful!
